The South African Human Rights Commission (SAHRC) has condemned the budget cuts to the Department of Basic Education which could see many teachers being unemployed.
The South Africa n Human Rights Commission has expressed huge concern and disappointment about the budget cuts to the basic education sector which might result in many teachers being axed., Gauteng MEC of Education Matome Chiloane announced that he is planning to slash various education programmes, school transportation, feeding scheme and learning and teaching support materials in order to secure the jobs of about 3,600 teachers.
Reacting to the teachers jobs cuts, the SAHRC said it is gravely concerned about the announced budget cuts to the basic education sector. Baloyi said the announcement of the budget deficit comes at a time when the country is battling with backlogs in school infrastructure.
