Barbie Mazeka the principal of Kwanogcoyi Primary School and her family escaped with just the clothes on their backs when their home was gutted in a fire on Sunday night.Last month, two classrooms at the school were burnt down by unknown suspects, disrupting teaching and learning.Nomarashiya Caluza, who's with the teachers' union in KZN, says they believe the incidents are linked to the 46-year-old's recent promotion.
"We are linking her appointment and the principal because, on 2 June, the school was closed. She was being blocked from accessing the school and she was a teacher who was working at the school. It is not like someone who was coming from outside.""Right now teachers are scared. What we also know is that in this school, members of Sadtu are not welcomed; they are ill-treated and victimised.
