Heartbreaking news to bring you tonight
A pensioner has died after a house fire in Nottinghamshire. Emergency services were called to Prior Close in Sutton-in-Ashfield at around 1.15pm on Friday, December 16 following reports of a fire.
A joint investigation between Nottinghamshire Fire and Rescue Service and Nottinghamshire Police into the cause of the fire remains ongoing. Group Manager Jonathan Holford, of Nottinghamshire Fire and Rescue Service, said: “On behalf of all of us at Nottinghamshire Fire and Rescue Service, I would like to extend my condolences to the man’s family and friends for their loss.“We are grateful to the other blue light services for their support at the scene.
Darren Maxwell, 48, who works as a window cleaner, said: "It is really upsetting to hear about, you don't expect it to happen on your street. It is just really awful. I knew him, I think he had lived on here for as long as anyone could remember - at least as long as I've been here."
