Southern African Development Community Ministers responsible for Disaster Risk Management are meeting in Masvingo, Zimbabwe on Wednesday to strengthen regional cooperation The Sixth Ordinary Meeting of SADC Ministers Responsible for Disaster Risk Management is focusing on improving disaster preparedness, emergency response, and long-term resilience across the region.
South Africa’s Cooperative Governance and Traditional Affairs Minister Velenkosini Hlabisa is chairing the high-level meeting under the theme: “Building Back Better Together: Advancing Resilient Recovery and Sustainable Development in SADC. ” Regional leaders say climate-related disasters are becoming more frequent and interconnected, threatening livelihoods, infrastructure, agriculture, and economic development.
