It began as so many successful relationships do: A deeply distinctive personality finds its soul mate, and a glorious creative encounter follows. In this case, Chitose Abe, Sacai’s innovative founder and creative director, met up with Cartier CEO and president Cyrille Vigneron, and the result is nothing less than a reimagining of the maison’s iconic Trinity jewelry.

Trinity for Chitose Abe of Sacai manages to feel both timeless and incredibly fresh, the hipster cousins of the triple loops that have nestled in jewelry boxes for decades. But age has not withered them—from the start, Trinity was meant to be worn by either gender, an extremely prescient notion back in 1924 when they were introduced.

But Chitose is not Lynnie, and luckily for us what has emerged from Cartier’s Paris atelier are Abe-inspired three-band rings that can now caress three, or even four, fingers; that triplet bracelet, meanwhile, has become a rigid trio, with one band fixed in a permanent flop. Still, some things never change: Every piece in the capsule—those iconic rings, the bracelet, plus earrings and a collar-like necklace—is rendered in Trinity’s three colors of gold .
