PRASA has been lauded for improving its financial statement from a disclaimer to a qualified audit.
The Passenger Rail Agency of South Africa has been lauded by Parliament’s Portfolio Committee on Transport, for improving its financial statement from a disclaimer to a qualified audit in the 2023/24/ financial year.
“I know there is a settlement out of court with the previous GCEO but we have lost a bit of money there from the fiscus, from the taxpayer. And I hear that they have averted some sort of a crisis because if they have not done that, we could have had two people sitting here but we have to hold the board accountable to say what let us to be where we are and why did we lose so much money because if the board holds the management accountable.
The PRASA Board Chairperson told MPs that it was not an easy task, and they had to seek legal advice. “When I look at the presentation, I see that only metros are being mentioned. What are we doing about the other provinces. Are there any plans to revive the state of the railway in other provinces, because nothing is mentioned of that sort,” says EFF’s Nontando Nolutshungu.
