University of Alabama football Coach Nick Saban, starting quarterback Bryce Young and other members of the team were on the TODAY Show Tuesday to discuss managing expectations and maintaining mental health.
Bhrett McCabe — a sports psychologist that works with pro and youth teams through his Birmingham-based practice “The MindSide” — works with the Tide and through his interview with Gosk, noted how players don’t want to let their parents down, along with other external factors.
Senior DJ Dale of Clay-Chalkville opened up about the depression “he didn’t want to admit” to himself following a knee injury that shortened his freshman year. Dale noted how he didn’t want to appear weak, but when he approached Saban for guidance, his head coach reassured him.
