[LISTEN] Tshepo Mahloele, CEO of Harith General Partners (harith_of), explains the background to GidonNovick’s resignation & outstanding issues needing resolution before SAA can be fully capitalised & operational on MoneywebSpecialReport BusinessNews
RYK VAN NIEKERK: Earlier this week I spoke to Gidon Novick after he resigned as a director from the board of the Takatso Consortium. Now, the Takatso Consortium is the organisation which wants to buy a stake of 51% in SAA. Novick was once the [joint] CEO of Comair and he founded Kulula. He also recently co-founded the airline Lift and he represented minority shareholders on the Takatso board. But he resigned, citing a lack of transparency within the board.
From our point of view we got this resignation. We know that discussions with SAA had been started. Whether they were concluded or not we don’t know, but this was not with us. They were done as Lift. We know that the discussions started. We know that there were meetings he had with the management of SAA outside of ourselves, and doing these proposals for this partnership outside of Takatso. RYK VAN NIEKERK: On this show Gidon Novick said he resigned due to a lack of transparency.
No, no, no. I think from the beginning we’ve been talking about the conflict and managing it. Remember, there were times when you asked about Mango and everything and all that, and we said that we are managing those risks, and we’ve never said that there aren’t those risks – and we are saying that Lift is not involved in the sharing of information, because of exactly those risks. So we’ve been aware of those conflicts and managing them all along.
