Why you should care about the SA Style Awards:
The awards’ judges recently attended a dinner to celebrate the morphing of this institution ahead of next year’s instalment.Ask the night’s MC – media personality, voice over artist, radio DJ and dialect coach Tarryn Louch, who was catapulted into the limelight when she was chosen as an SA Style Awards recipient in 2016, winning the Next Big Thing Award.
“It was a definitive moment in my career as it put me on the map. People sat up and took notice after that. That achievement elevated everything I was doing already. I started working at GoodHope FM and in the media space,” says Louch. There will always be merit for us as South Africans in recognising and acknowledging our creatives, individuals and groups whose talents and offerings weave our often divided society into a cohesive unit. But is there relevance to giving airtime to people who merely dress well?
High-brow guests clad in colourful regalia as per the “colour and glamour” dress code included acclaimed vocalist and performer Lira; multi-award-winning actress Terry Pheto; restaurateur power couple Leanne Liebenberg and Nicky van der Walt, as well as influencer, former model, stylist, personal shopper and wardrobe organiser Tshepi Vundla.
