President Cyril Ramaphosa has expressed concern over the continuous implementation of rolling blackouts, saying it has a negative impact on homes and businesses. FreedomDay
Ramaphosa delivered the keynote address duringHe says the country’s energy future must be secured.
“We have to secure our energy future, adapt to climate change, grow our economy and create more jobs, eradicate the scourge of GBV and act against criminality. Freedom cannot be meaningful when South African homes and businesses are without electricity for several hours in a day.”The President has also called on all eligible voters, including the youth, to register to vote in the 2024 national elections.
The Independent Electoral Commission has designated the 18th and 19th of November for voter registration.Today marks 29 years since the first democratic elections in 1994. Ramaphosa says the country must work to achieve equal rights. “We need to unite as a society to end the violence perpetrated against women in our country. This is a fight that we must all take up, both men and women, to achieve equal rights and freedoms and opportunities for all.”“We acknowledge that so much of the promise of 1994 still needs to be realised. It is on this occasion that we rededicate ourselves to work with greater purpose of determination, we work with greater unity to give full effect to the meaning of freedom in our land.
