Despite professional boxing producing millionaires in and out of the ring across the globe, South African fighters in the paid ranks are still having to juggle full-time work and professional boxing so that they can survive financially
Hard as it is, however, these dedicated pugilists are trying to pay equal attention to their boxing careers and their sources of income.In other countries, fighters only juggle the ring with work in the early stages of their boxing careers.
The list included the revered Xolisani “Nomeva” Ndongeni, Lusanda “Schoolboy” Komanisi and Tshifhiwa “The Atomic Spider” Munyai. According to the seasoned fighter from Limpopo, a lack of sponsorship was one reason boxers had to work regular jobs. “A lot needs to be done to improve boxing in South Africa. People who’re involved in the sport need to start behaving professionally, which would surely attract more sponsorships. The reason corporates don’t associate themselves with the sport is because it isn’t run properly.
