'SA does not have the funds': Momentum Metropolitan first insurer to respond to NHI news
Momentum Metropolitan has become the first major insurance group to issue a public response to news that President Cyril Ramaphosa intends signing the National Health Insurance Bill into law, saying on Tuesday that it's"unsustainable".
Rival firm Discovery opted not to comment despite its shares falling as much as 7.4% on the first day of trading following news that the controversial bill would become law, though the group's stock later pared losses. Shares in Momentum Metropolitan also fell on the news. Ramaphosa's presidency released the news on Monday evening, prompting strong criticism from commercial and industry bodies, including Business Unity SA and the SA Health Professionals Collaboration , which represents more than 25 000 private and public sector healthcare workers.
