The all-female San Antonio punk band adds authenticity and excitement and energy to the play.
script follows the friendship between two Latina musicians who first meet at auditions for an all-girl band in 1977. The story zips back and forth from the '70s to 2015, with actresses Josey Porras and Noelle Elise Mefford playing the musicians in their youth and Marisela Barrera and Ginger Gamble Martel playing them in the present day.

"I started toying with the idea: What would have happened if two people like these two people had been in a punk band when they were young," said Burbano, who grew up going to punk shows."It’s all so rote, with rock 'n' rollers — rise to stardom, then fall, then drug addiction, then recovery and then what?
“Fabulous Monsters” was supposed to premiere in Los Angeles a few years ago, but the pandemic squashed that plan. A mutual friend connected Burbano towho made the case that it should premiere in San Antonio.
