Blaney is disqualified from a sixth-place finish, an enormous blow to his Championship Four hopes.
Ryan Blaney's No. 12 Penske Ford failed post-race technical inspection after Sunday's NASCAR Cup Series race at Las Vegas Motor Speedway, resulting in an immediate disqualification. The car was found to have a left-front shock that NASCAR says 'did not meet the overall specified length outlined in the NASCAR Rule Book.'Blaney loses a sixth-place finish and is instead credited with a finish of 36th and is shown as scoring just one point, effectively a penalty of 38 points.
While a NASCAR driver can theoretically score more than 60 points in a race by winning both stages, Blaney would have to score that much of a difference in points over at least half of a group of six drivers bunched together within 26 points of one another if he were to advance on points alone. Effectively, that means he will need to win one of the next two races in order to have a shot at the championship in Phoenix.
