Former Rwandan police officer Fulgence Kayishema, accused of ordering the killing of some 2 000 Tutsis who were seeking refuge in a church during the 1994 genocide, appeared briefly in court on Friday and was remanded in custody
.
As he was being brought up from the dock, Kayishema was asked by a journalist if he had anything to say to the victims of the 1994 genocide, to which he responded:"What I can say? We are sorry to hear what was happening," adding he did not have any role during the violence. Kayishema has been on the US state department's wanted list under the Rewards for Justice Programme, with a $5 million reward offered for his arrest.
