Police seized seized 14 bags containing cocaine bricks estimated at R252 million.
A 39-year-old Russian national and a 48-year-old Gauteng man have been apprehended for drug possession at the Still Bay Harbour along the Garden Route District of the Western Cape.
Police Spokesperson Sergeant Christopher Spies says police acted on information about suspicious activities in the area. According to Spies, officers tracked down the two suspects on Friday evening and arrested them at a local accommodation establishment after they seized 14 bags containing cocaine bricks estimated at R252 million.
“While traveling the members spotted the vehicle. The vehicle sped off and a chase ensued,” said Spies and added that police brought the vehicle to a halt and the occupants got out and fled into the bushes. He further said the vehicle was later searched and the rubber duck boat resulted in 14 bags containing 400 bricks of cocaine being seized at the scene.Spies highlighted that the suspects, who were arrested on charges of dealing drugs remain in police custody.Western Cape police commissioner Lieutenant-General Thembisile Patekile commended the SAPS in the province for acting being vigilant and acting swiftly on the information given.
