When we heard the noise we didn’t know what it was. It could have been anything – a broken bottle, maybe. In the police, when you go through something that is out of the ordinary, you get aftercare and I rushed back to work two days after the attack, but something was different. I could sleep for eight hours and my whole body would still feel shattered.Over time, I just became a different person. My brain started reassessing my life, and what I had I didn’t want anymore.
I feel terrible because my wife knew something was wrong and tried to talk to me about it, but I just wouldn’t listen. I felt I could justify being a prick because of what had happened.I know now I was suffering from anxiety and PTSD, which I’d never had before., especially if the person hasn’t really acknowledged it themselves. It can be such a selfish condition; I pushed my wife away and I regret it so much now because she just wanted to help me.
