Skies are mostly sunny and temperatures are on the rise. Highs this afternoon will climb well into the 70s, some just shy of the 80s.
COLUMBUS, Ohio — It was a gorgeous and breezy Sunday around central Ohio, but those warm temperatures are now leading to the risk for some strong storms Sunday evening. was forming in northeast Ohio and northwest Pennsylvania, which will be dropping slowly to the south as the night goes on. These storms are bringing with them the risk of wind gusts up to 70 mph, large hail heavy rain and an isolated tornado.
Much of the region, especially east of Columbus, is under at least a level 2/5 risk for a severe storm this evening. Damaging winds and hail, along with the potential for flooding in already saturated areas will be the main concerns. A tornado cannot be ruled out but is not the primary focus.Watch A Watch indicates the possibility of severe weather in a relatively broad area. For instance, a tornado watch means conditions are favorable for the development of tornadoes. Go about your normal routines, but watch for threatening weather.A Warning is issued when severe weather is actually occurring. For instance, a tornado warning means a tornado has actually been sighted or has been indicated by radar. The warning usually encompasses a relatively small geographic area.
Sometimes an approaching tornado will sound like the roar of a train or airplane. If you see or hear a tornado, take cover immediately. Seek shelter inside, preferably below ground level. Do not waste time opening windows; tornado-force winds will"open" the windows well before the pressure difference can cause any structural damage. Above all, protect your head and lie flat.Get away from windows, doors and outside walls. Go to the basement.
