McIlroy said he partied hard with Irish teammate Shane Lowry after Europe beat USA in Rome earlier this month

Rory McIlroy joked he needed a week to recover from Team Europe's Ryder Cup celebrations with Irish teammate Shane Lowry. It was an especially sweet victory for McIlroy after his below-par performance at the previous Ryder Cup in Wisconsin left him in tears. And he and Lowry, who are close friends and neighbours in Jupiter, Florida, made good on their promise to party hard after Europe's success.

In an interview with Sky Sports at the US Grand Prix, McIlroy was asked if there was a long celebration? "Oh, absolutely," he said. "So much so that we kept the party going when we got back to the States the week after as well."Ryder Cups only come along every two years...I've been on the losing side of them and it feels awful so, when you do win them, you have to celebrate them.

And he is excited about the prospect of being involved with another team after the mayhem of the Ryder Cup. "When we win individual tournaments, it's great and you can celebrate with your friends and with your family, but I don't think there's anything like winning and being part of a team, and everyone being invested in the same goal.
