Article contentIncluding four more — Larsen, barrel-racer Justine Elliott, saddle-bronc star Dawson Hay and steer-wrestler Justin Miller — who joined the home-country contingent with their success on Wildcard Saturday.
“I do it the hard way,” said Larsen, who also waited until the fourth and final round of Pool B competition to qualify for Wildcard Saturday. “And if I could do it twice, I’d do it again, and that’s exactly what happened. Anytime you get to ride more than once at Calgary, it’s always a bonus.Article content
“Bareback riders aren’t rocket scientists, so no point in starting to do it now,” Larsen added. “It’s the same approach — get out of your own way and have fun, and when the horse pulls on you, pull a little harder.” “Man, I’m excited,” said Miller, who completed the steer wrestle with help from super-horse Tyson, on Sportsnet. “I got my young family here — just looking forward to it.”
We’ll see after the Texas tie-down talent, who’s tops in the PRCA world rankings with $118,521 so far on the season, qualified for Showdown Sunday with a winning 7.4-second time. Instead, Texan Yates has to settle for $2,000 to end his Stampede. Douch takes home $4,500, while Meged pockets $3,500 and New Mexico’s Shad Mayfield gets paid $1,000 for his fourth-place Saturday. That made it tough for riders to qualify for Showdown Sunday.
