For Fall 2020, however, Rodarte sisters Kate and Laura Mulleavy returned to the New York calendar and staged a dazzling show that riffed on the brand's signature romantic sensibility while incorporating some darker, menacing themes like Dracula-inspired makeup and silhouettes.
The gothic Vampire mood was offset by Valentine's Day-ready details like heart motifs and rose adornments. The tension between sweet and sinister resulted in a collection that sparked fantasy and whimsy while staying grounded in reality. But not before the Mulleavy sisters gave us one more thing to dream about: a show-stopping finale gown with an elaborate floral headpiece, sweetheart neckline, puff shoulders and long swooping train. It was a reminder of how great it was to have Rodarte in New York, and here's hoping they let their dark romantic imaginations run wild here again next season.
