While the Rockies’ icon might not be elected to the National Baseball Hall of Fame this year, he’s trending strongly toward future selection if he falls short this month.
For comparison’s sake, Rockies right fielder Larry Walker was elected to the Hall of Fame in 2020, in his 10th and final year on the ballot. Walker jumped from 54.6% to 76.6% to finally earn induction. “Helton was essentially squeezed off my ballot last year, but I voted for him again. I figured he’d be back this year with the ballot clearing up with Bonds, Clemens, Ortiz and Sosa off the ballot,” said Reiter, who created” a six-part documentary podcast that investigated the cheating scandal that tarnished the Houston Astros’ 2017 World Series win.
