Houston Rockets players including guard Jalen Green kick around a basketball before taking on the San Antonio Spurs at the Toyota Center on Monday, Dec. 19, 2022 in Houston. This was not the first time that things looked hopeless for the Rockets in a game. On the way to 9-21, there have been blowouts before the Spurs crushed them on Monday. There have been games that were careening in that direction.
“A lot of it was to the adversity,” Rockets coach Stephen Silas said. “We got down on ourselves. We were missing shots. And as a result, we let go of the rope a little bit tonight and that was disappointing.” As with Saturday’s loss, the Rockets shot horribly from the perimeter, making 20.8 percent of their 3s, 17.9 percent when the bench was cleared with four minutes remaining. When they matched their lowest-scoring quarter of the season set in Saturday’s loss, the Rockets again resorted to going one-on-one, forcing shots at the rim.
“We haven’t been playing like ourselves the past two or three games. We just need to get back to what worked. Just play together, play hard. I’m like a broken record.”
