Rockets center Alperen Sengun finds himself sandwiched by 76ers forward Paul Reed, right, and guard James Harden during a Dec. 5 matchup at Toyota Center.Less than a half minute into Saturday’s game, Rockets guard Jalen Green fed center Alperen Sengun at the elbow, Sengun faked a give-and-go pass back to a cutting Green before he made a sharp move to his right and flipped in his drive as if still in the layup lines that had ended minutes earlier.
As the Rockets headed to the season’s 30th game Monday against the Spurs, seeking a bounce-back performance from the offense that had been clicking two weeks earlier, the effort to fit Sengun’s skills into the offense remained a work in progress. Sengun has remained involved in the offense, generally a three-pronged attack with Kevin Porter Jr., Green and Sengun sharing touches equally.
Sengun’s 2.7 post-ups per game rank 13th in the NBA, half of Jokic’s league-leading total and an indication of how greatly the use of post-up offense has decreased around the NBA in recent seasons.“Post up,” he said with a smile. “That is my game.”
