Rochester City Councilmember Willie Lightfoot sent a letter to Mayor Malik Evans, urging the city to halt the current property assessment process.
Rochester, N.Y. — Rochester City Councilmember Willie Lightfoot — along with three fellow councilmembers — sent a letter to Mayor Malik Evans earlier this week, urging the city to halt the current property assessment process to allow more time to find an amicable solution for property owners.
Lightfoot's letter to the mayor, which was signed by councilmembers Mary Lupien, Stanley Martin and Kim Smith, expressed concerns about the impact that an increased property assessment will have on the city’s most vulnerable residents. The letter requests that any new assessments be delayed for a period of two years.
City of Rochester Budget Director Suzanne Warren says, "It’s not linear, just because your assessment double does not mean your property tax bill will double."
