“The team has not only accumulated several undefeated seasons, it has also provided clinics and workshops to other teams, province wide, to help bring up the performance levels of all competitions in the Maritimes,” he said. That year, the Robofest team coached by Jeff Hafting included team members Finn Hafting, Abigail Bonnington, and Griffin Batt who went on to compete in the World Championship Robofest event in Detroit at Laurence Tech University. They won second place in the game competition and first place in the unknown mission challenge.
Abigail Bonnington, Griffin Batt, and Finn Hafting show off the first- and second-place trophies they brought back from the world robotics competition in Detroit in 2018. When the three Annapolis West Education Centre students arrived home from the event on May 22 that year, Annapolis Royal town council proclaimed it Royal Robots Day. The three students have since gone on to study engineering at Dalhousie, Western, and Waterloo universities.
“At the FIRST Lego League Maritime Championship competition held at Acadia University in February, the new Royal Robots won the ‘Rising Star’ award, and placed third overall,” Hafting said.
