Officers early Friday, March 8, shot and killed a man in Riverton when he reportedly brandished a gun at the end of a multi-city pursuit, according to police.
A road is blocked in Riverton, Utah, on Friday, March 8, after a police pursuit ended in a deadly officer-involved shooting earlier that morning. Officers have released the identity of a man who was shot and killed during a police pursuit through Salt Lake County that ended in Riverton.
They said 40-year-old Joshua Watson of Riverton was killed in Riverton after he reportedly brandished a gun at the end of a multi-city pursuit, according to police. Authorities responded to a report of a suspected vehicle burglary in Sandy, said RPD Public Information Officer Josh Lee. Police located Watson, who led them on a "slow-speed chase" through Sandy and into Herriman before the pursuit ended at a residence in Riverton in the area of 2100 West and 13800 South.Watson was pronounced dead at the scene.
Officers from the Sandy, Herriman, and Riverton police departments were all involved in the incident, and all reportedly fired shots at the suspect.Police said Watson has a criminal history and was well known to the Riverton Police Department.
