Tragedy as Leeds woman dies after falling into River Aire
A woman has died after she fell into the River Aire and was dragged by the current for about five miles.
The tragic incident occurred while stormy weather was raging in Leeds, yesterday . The Met Office had issued a yellow weather warning across the country, warning a month's worth of rain would fall in just 42 hours. The woman, in her 30s, sadly died in hospital. She was initially spotted floating down the River Aire, close to Clarence Dock, at 1.36am. Emergency crews found her in the river near Woodlesford and rescued her from the river's swollen banks, before rushing her to hospital.West Yorkshire Police are still attempting to establish how she came to be in the river. A force spokesperson said: "The woman, who was in her thirties, sadly passed away in hospital yesterday afternoon.
"Enquiries are ongoing to establish how she came to be in the river but there are not thought to be any suspicious circumstances at this time."
