Orlando Pirates coach Jose Riveiro had to replace Sipho Chaine in the second half while his team were leading Arrows 4-0.
Orlando Pirates coach Jose Riveiro has explained why he substituted Sipho Chaine for Siyabonga Mpontshane during their 7-1 win over Golden Arrows on Saturday.Despite the goalkeeper change, Pirates dominated the match with ease, even though Mpontshane conceded a goal.“It is a heavy score and it can be something we capitalise on in a positive way for the future in terms of trusting in ourselves and knowing what we are capable of.
Regarding the goalkeeper change, Riveiro said Chaine felt discomfort during the game. At the time a change was made, Pirates were leading 4-0. “It was like a discomfort ,” said Riveiro. “He played, but I cannot tell you how serious it can be.“He could have continued a little bit more if we wanted. But, we didn’t want to take so much more risk.
“It’s not because of the result, so let’s hear in the next 24 hours how serious the injury is,” he said. Riveiro will have to sweat on Chaine’s fitness as his side next play AmaZulu in the Nedbank Cup quarter-finals.
