Allies of Rishi Sunak are launching a move to shore up his position on Brexit in what is being seen as an effort coordinated by No 10 following a Conservative backlash singharj reports:
Mr Sunak also promised Sir Jeffrey he would be “resolute” in defending Northern Ireland, again setting out his three tests to ensure the region’s sovereignty, to safeguard its place in the union and to find “practical solutions” to the problems the Protocol creates for trade.
Ms Braverman, a former senior member of the Brexiteer European Research Group , has been the subject of speculation she could quit after making a pointed intervention that echoed the concerns of Eurosceptics about the Northern Ireland Protocol negotiations this week. She also pointedly warned against giving the EU a “foothold” in the UK via Northern Ireland, althoughunderstands this was not a warning against an ongoing role for the European Court of Justice in the region that would have put her on a potential collision course with Mr Sunak who is expected to agree it will continue to have some involvement.
“I don’t support selling out on Northern Ireland and allowing the EU a foothold in the United Kingdom.
