SA Rugby has paid tribute to the late Boland club rugby player who tragically passed away during a game on Saturday.
Mark Alexander, the president of SA Rugby, passed on a message of condolences to the family, friends and teammates of Ashwill Sauls, a club rugby player from Robertson, who sadly passed away during a match over the weekend., the 24-year-old fullback broke multiple ribs after he was legally tackled and subsequently sustained a punctured lung which then led to internal bleeding.
“At just 24 years old, Ashwill had been a vital part of the Rangers for the past five years, showcasing not only his skill on the field but also his sportsmanship and passion for the game. His loss is deeply felt by his teammates, coaches, and all who knew him. “May Ashwill’s memory inspire us all to cherish every moment and play the game with the same spirit and dedication that he did. Rest in peace, Ashwill Sauls. You will be dearly missed.”Earlier in the week, the Boland Rugby Union president Bennie van Rooi confirmed that they are ready to give the family and club any support in whatever way, shape or form going forward.
The Sauls family has declined to comment, and the Boland rugby union has asked the media and the rugby community to respect their wish for privacy as they deal with the loss of the promising player.
