Nhulunbuy residents say mining giant Rio Tinto is responsible for housing sale delays in north-east Arnhem Land.
Rio Tinto leases land from traditional owners where its north-east Arnhem Land mining operation and the mining and services town Nhulunbuy is located.
"I've got two shipping containers waiting to be unpacked – one with all my fishing gear to run my business and the other with our furniture and our goods," Mr Canobie said. When Mr Canobie reached that step, he said the mining giant left him waiting nearly three months for a reply."They've had control of this town for a long time. They should be able to streamline a little bit better."A spokesperson told the ABC the company is part of a reference group working to help set the region up for a positive future, for the benefit of traditional owners, residents and businesses.
