Ridley's ending explained as the truth about the fire finally emerges
This week’s Murder Of The Week was Patrick Elliot, a councillor and therapist who lived alone in his council estate flat, and regularly tormented by a local girl gang with homophobic comments and nasty attacks.Initially, it’s believed Rochelle Blaine is behind the attack after being seen confronting him previously, but it turns out she’s just a red herring.
Flashbacks reveal Michael had been helping him take down a crime ring run by Adam Donnelly, and despite initially saying he would keep his involvement a secret, Ridley was strong-armed into naming Michael to the police as an official informant, leaving Michael scared for his life once the arrest was made for being a grass.
Instead, Ridley quickly becomes obsessed with the case beyond his own good. No longer a detective, he gets annoyed he has to work under Carol’s decisions, and goes against her orders in order to push for things further. This ultimately results in Carol removing him from the case with the help of DCI Maynard, who had already had enough of Ridley getting involved in cases where he shouldn’t have been.
Despite not finding the recording, Cal thinks he’s in the clear – right up until Michael calls him, and informs him Ridley has discovered the tape.
