Richard Osman has looked back on the bizarre moment the Queen won a game of Pointless, describing the late monarch as ‘very competitive’.
The TV star and author hosted the quiz show with Alexander Armstrong, and it’s thought that the Queen enjoyed watching – so much so that, in 2019, Xander was invited to a game at the‘He was invited up to see the Queen – I note I wasn’t invited!’ Richard recalled to Lorraine Kelly.
‘He went up to Sandringham WI and he played – there were two teams, the Queen was captain of one of the teams against a local woman from the village,’ Richard continued. ‘The Queen’s team won. [Xander] said she was very, very forthright in her opinions as to what answers they should give and, at the end, he presented her with a Pointless trophy.’The Queen died at the age of 96 in Balmoral , telling Jonathan Ross: ‘There were 34 women in this church hall and me and one of them is the Queen… We chatted a bit. She is lovely, the Queen.’
‘I’ve got my trophy from the 1000th show we did and it just sits there gathering dust so I gave that as the prize,’ he recalled. ‘We played a little version of Pointless where we do a higher or a lower and I’d give a score out… Anyway we did a best of five and she stormed it.‘[She won] hands down. I didn’t [let her win], she was good.
