SINGAPORE – British billionaire Richard Branson has shown disrespect to Singapore’s judicial system by making allegations about a court case involving a drug trafficker, said the Ministry of Home Affairs .
“He shows disrespect for Singapore’s judges and our criminal justice system with such allegations”, MHA added on Tuesday. He was referring to the impending execution of the 46-year-old Singaporean who was convicted in 2018 of abetting the trafficking of 1017.9g of cannabis. MHA noted that the Misuse of Drugs Act provides for the death penalty if the amount of cannabis is more than 500g and that the amount Tangaraju was convicted for is more than twice the capital threshold.Tangaraju’s case was tried before the High Court, which found enough evidence to conclude that the charge against him had been proven beyond a reasonable doubt.
