It has been almost a year since the Glazer family put Man Utd up for sale and the takeover situation still remains unclear.
Manchester United chief executive officer Richard Arnold says he appreciates supporters' desire for updates on the ongoing takeover situation of the club and has explained why they can't be given.
The Glazer family announced last November they were putting the club up for sale as part of a strategic review but, almost a year later, there's no imminent sign of a takeover being completed. Qatar-backed Sheikh Jassim and United fan and INEOS billionaire Sir Jim Ratcliffe both remain in the running to invest in the club, though it is unclear which direction the Glazer family will take next.
Speaking at the recent Fans’ Forum event, Arnold was asked for an update on the takeover amid the lack of official information on the matter. The United CEO is quoted as saying 'the club understood the desire for a resolution as soon as possible but reiterated that, as a publicly listed company, it was impossible to provide updates until such a time as there is an outcome that can be communicated to the market.
Arnold was also asked if the current owners are aware of the fans' desire for change as soon as possible. He answered that 'the club was transparent in its feedback to the owners.' The Fans' Forum is the key representative body consisting of representatives from different constituencies of the United fanbase and senior members of the club. The forum, which meets four times a season, aims to provide an open forum to develop a better understanding of issues affecting supporters, and to maintain a constructive dialogue between the club and fans.
