Destiny Jackson was the sparkplug for the Owls , off to their best start in program history. For the first time since their WNIT championship season , the Owls earned votes in the latest AP poll. From her point guard position, the 5-9 lefthanded Jackson impacted the game with her penetration to the basket and her quickness, compiling 33 points on 12-of-14 shooting, with seven rebounds, five assists and three steals. Jackson’s layup with 4.8 seconds remaining in the game concluded the scoring.The score was 69-69 at the end of regulation and 78-78 at the end of the first overtime.
For the Cougars, Laila Blair was valuable with her interior passing and overall game. She posted a team-high 17 points and had four of the team’s 15 steals. Bria Patterson added 16 points and nine rebounds for the Cougars. Houston’s Tatyana Hill converted a pair of free throws with 18 seconds remaining to tie the game 69-69, sending the game into the first overtime.
