Intertwined controversies all intersect with the Liberals\u0027 handling of the original reports of electoral meddling

Attention shifted when Justin Trudeau reached out to his familiar friend and former Pierre Elliott Trudeau Foundation member, David Johnston, and baptized the former governor general with the elegant moniker of special “rapporteur.” The title has that certain “However, since the first raptures over the appointment, all has not been well. The rapporteur’s close association with the Trudeau family and his term with the now most-beleaguered Trudeau Foundation is a controversy in itself.

The way the Chinese interference story radiates outwards, and sprouts new branches and fresh shoots, is a tribute to political horticulture.

So when Mr. Trudeau offered the emphatic assertion — the PM is curiously at his least persuasive when being most emphatic — that “The Trudeau Foundation is a foundation with which I have absolutely no intersection,” he either completely misunderstood the meaning of “intersection,” or he has a possibly untreatable case of purblindness.

I called this earlier an imbroglio. Now I am going for an old favourite — a hodgepodge; farrago would work, too. You might just choose straightforward awful mess. Or a pile, a heap of entangled controversies.
