Police in South Jersey have investigated several animal abuse cases involving injured and abused dogs in recent months, including two this week.
Officials have investigated several highly publicized dog abuse cases in South Jersey in recent months. In an incident from late last year, the animal died from the abuse and a foundation has been formed in his honor.and discarded near railroad tracks last weekend, a reward for information on the abuser has grown to $6,000.
The reward for information leading to the arrest and conviction of Coco’s abuser increased from an initial $1,000 offered by the shelter to $6,000, thanks to support from“Coco’s story has gotten an overwhelming response with so many offers for adoption,” said Jessica Morrison, director of operations with the shelter. “She continues to thrive in her foster home and has a wonderful adoptive home lined up.
These animal abuse cases follow two other South Jersey incidents from late last year in which abused animals were recovered and taken to the same shelter.. One, dubbed Peaches, was found in Millville, and had suffered a fractured jaw, facial swelling and internal injuries. Percy suffered substantial injuries, including multiple infected wounds, and had to have his upper jaw removed. Despite the efforts to save him, the animal died Dec. 3.
Police have found no evidence of a dog-fighting ring operating in the area or additional evidence of what happened to Percy, according to Carneys Point Police Lt. Joseph Racite.“We take animal complaints seriously,” Racite said. “If we get an animal complaint, we’re going to follow it through.”
