This new production of the classic, representing a new configuration of Mary Poppins and her relationship with the Banks family, reminds viewers of what great musical theater is all about.

With the outstanding Olivia Hernandez in the starring role of Mary Poppins, the excellent Courtney Markowitz reprising her role as Mrs. Banks, and the scene-stealing, Houston veteran actor Susan Koozin doing double duty as both the gentle Bird Woman and the mean-spirited Miss Andrew, it is hard to think of a better trio playing these roles.

Susan Koozin’s performance as George Banks’ former nanny Miss Andrew, who has come back to replace Mary Poppins , is comedy gold, and we get to hear Koozin sing her way through bossing and bullying those around her. The dance numbers are big, and the chimney sweepers’ dance is one of many highlights that is high energy without being frantic, and never drags or disappoints. Audiences can also enjoy Houston favorite Holland Vavra playing multiple roles, as well as Labraska Washington playing Robertson Ay, both with comic panache.
