'For somebody completely new to the show, it defied expectations'
Within minutes of the curtain opening, the quiet rumbling and whining of an electric guitar, shouts and hollers crack through the smoke as figures clad in baggy pants and trainers run through the stalls and up onto the stage.
The cast is led by Ian McIntosh who plays the titular role, Shem Omari James as Judas, and Hannah Richardson as Mary Magdalene. It felt like a private moment and one that you couldn’t look away from. It’s clear to see why McIntosh was nominated for an Olivier Award.
