Creed III is a really solid addition to the series, and it's undoubtedly far fresher than a 9th Rocky flick. However, something almost ethereal is missing from the film. | News24Arts
Adonis Creed is enjoying his retirement from boxing with his wife, Bianca and his daughter, Amara , and his new life as a boxing promoter. But when an old friend and former boxing prodigy, Damian Anderson , re-enters his life looking for a shot in the big leagues, all that Adonis worked so hard to build comes under threat.
Well, okay, maybe not the 5th one, but more even than the relatively serious and accomplished 2nd and 6th instalments, I have a special fondness for the cheese fests that are Rocky III and IV. Even at its silliest, and boy did it get silly , the Rocky sequels were the ultimate in uplifting, fist-pumping, feel-good entertainment that all, even the dreaded 5th one, featured Stallone's greatest creation – and one of cinema's most indelible characters – at their centre.
Unlike those later Rocky films, though, it's easily as well made as its immediate predecessors , but it's just nowhere near as fun. There's just something in the tone here that doesn't quite work. There's no doubt that the script by Keenan Coogler and Zach Baylin, based on the story Ryan and Keenan Coogler, has plenty about it that is objectively silly and objectively overly reliant on formula.
