Novak Djokovic stays at a compound in Alpine, N.J. during the U.S. Open.
It’s also just 7 miles from the George Washington Bridge and 24 miles from the USTA Billie Jean King National Tennis Center, making it easy for Djokovic to commute back and forth.
“Normally before the tournament starts, I’m in the city,” added Djokovic, who was not permitted to play the U.S. Open in 2021 or ‘22 due to his COVID-19 vaccination status. “Once the tournament starts, we go into full lockdown mode. My friend has a beautiful estate there with tennis courts. Just me and my family, we stay there. We have a relaxing time. It’s great in the off days between the matches, you just kind of recharge, rejuvenate, and you’re able to come out and really have more energy.
Djokovic’s friend is Gordon Uehling, a former pro tennis player who reached a career-high of 925 in the world and now runs a tennis training center called CourtSense that operates out of the Tenafly and Bogota Racquet Clubs. Asked if he had been out to eat in New Jersey, Djokovic said, “I would normally stay at home. If I go out to eat it would be in the city but yeah, Jersey is very nice. Much more quiet and in great proximity to the city and also to Flushing Meadows here.”
