Vladimir Munk was 20 when he was freed from the Auschwitz concentration camp. His parents had already been killed there. He'll return for the first time on Monday when the 75th anniversary of the liberation will be marked. ncpr

He was born in Pardubice, Czechoslovakia in 1925. “I am now 94 years old," Munk says."In one month I will be 95 years old.” Terezin was not an extermination camp, though space was tight and food was scarce. More than 33,000 people died at Terezin during the Holocaust. Munk was tattooed when he arrived at Auschwitz in 1944 with his father, who he later found out was killed in the camp's gas chambers. Munk had survived while millions had perished. He knows he’s lucky to be here today, but Munk says since that day he has tried not to look back too much.
