The high street chemist has given a blow to shoppers with its plans to shut 300 outlets
Retail giant Boots has confirmed that a number of stores are to close in the next week or so. - reducing the number of shops from 2,200 to 1,900.
The high street has suffered from a lot of bad news - more than 1,000 banks have closed branches in the last 12 months. And retailers including Iceland, Next, Wilko and New Look have all revealed closures. For Boots the next stores to close are Kings Square, York, The Avenue, Warminster, Gorleston, Great Yarmouth, and High Row, Darlington.
More than 420,000 jobs in the retail industry have been lost since 2010, sparking fears that the high street may be in “terminal decline”, according to a report earlier this month. The GMB union said its research suggested a 28% decline in “traditional” retail jobs over the past decade.
