The owners of Summit Hillcrest did not respond to requests for comment. Jared Remington, who is named in the suit as the manager of the private equity firm that oversees CC Hillcrest LLC,Tuesday, citing delays in repairs because of “supply-chain issues, pandemic-related contractor shortages and other uncontrollable challenges.”

Llorca and Perez-Carrillo are seeking thousands of dollars in damages, with trial dates set in Dallas County civil court for April 25 and May 24, respectively. The AC problems have continued, with renters seeking help from neighbors last summer when it stopped working in some parts of the complex for more than 48 hours at a time.

Jones and other residents say the conditions are not only inconvenient and unsafe, but are also creating mold buildup and contributing to their declining health. Jones said she’s been hospitalized and treated for difficulty breathing and chest pain several times since moving into the apartment. Her neighbor, 57-year-old Julie Pipkins, has been hospitalized twice with bacterial infections, said her since living at Hillcrest daughter, Sade, who did not want to provide her last name.
