A San Antonio resident lashed out at city officials over maulings, roaming dogs and calls to ACS that went unanswered.
A crowd of Northwest Side residents vented their fear of dog attacks and anger over what they saw as Animal Care Services' inaction during a town hall meeting on Thursday night. Several attendees told tales of dogs that terrorize their neighborhoods — and repeated calls to the city that have gone unanswered. Anita Kegley, a home inspector, said she was attacked by a pit bull in November. The dog bit her leg. She said the wound took three months to heal.

Her husband, 77-year-old Max De Los Santos Jr., lost both of his legs after he was mauled by a neighbor’s dogs while in his own yard in August.
New city budget aims to curb tragedies involving aggressive dogs, response to mental health crises Last year, city officials said ACS responded to only 44% of calls involving aggressive dogs or animal cruelty and neglect. But with an injection of funding in this year’s budget, the goal is to increase the response rate to 64%. The city plans to continue increasing ACS funds in future budgets to continue improving that percentage.
