A snowmachine collision on the Denali Highway leaves one person dead.
Published: Feb. 19, 2024 at 2:44 PM AKSTFAIRBANKS, Alaska - A man from Oregon died on Friday, Feb. 16, while driving a snowmachine along the Denali Highway as he was visiting Alaska.
A group of snowmachine riders were travelling on a trail along the Denali Highway on Feb. 16, when two of the machines collided. At 4:03 p.m., the Alaska State Troopers received notice of the incident via an SOS alert from satellite communications. Investigation revealed that the one of the snowmachines from the group had struck the back of another sending both machines off the trail.
During the collision, the snowmachine being driven by 70-year-old Glenn Cantor had rolled on top of him. Cantor, a resident of Bend, Oregon, then received life saving efforts from members of the group, but was declared dead at the scene. Next of kin have been notified and Cantor’s body has been sent to the state medical examiner for autopsy.
