The Department of Basic Education will release in the newspapers for the grade 12 class of 2024, after it challenges the Information Regulator’s enforcement notice.
Department of Basic Education will proceed and release matric results to media houses for publication.
Last month, the DBE was served with an enforcement notice after it failed to obtain consent for the publication of matric results from learners or parents/guardians of learners that sat for the 2023 National Senior Certificate examinations. The grounds of appeal relied upon by the Department of Basic Education are fourfold, including that an enforcement notice under section 95 of POPIA can only be issuedpersonal information of a data subject.which already settled the lawfulness of the release and publication of the matriccorresponding results only) in local newspapers, says the DBE.
The court’s decision was because not everyone has access to the internet, adding that some learners no longer live in the area where their high school is based and might not be able to access their results timeously.
