The 43-year-old Gagné was an assistant behind Roy on the Remparts bench last season; he had previously served as a consultant to the general manager before joining the club officially. He helped lead the Remparts to a 53-12-1-2 record and captured the franchise’s first Gilies-Courteau Trophy as QMJHL Champions; the club would later win the Memorial Cup in Kamloops.

The Sainte-Foy, Quebec product played his major junior hockey with the Remparts from 1996-1999. He tallied 89 goals and 131 assists for 220 points in 165 games. Further, as a player, Gagné was drafted 22nd overall in the 1998 NHL Entry Draft by the Philadelphia Flyers, where he would carve out a great career in the suburbs of Philly.

He would spend 10 seasons with the Flyers. Throughout his career, he would later appear in games with the Tampa Bay Lightning, Los Angeles Kings, and Boston Bruins. Gagné won a Stanley Cup in 2011-12 with the Kings organization after they defeated the New Jersey Devils. He was named a two-time NHL All-Star; he registered Gagné had 291 goals and 310 assists in 822 regular season games.
